Private Dining Rooms Chelmsford Essex
Galvin Blog Posted: 27/01/2018

Private dining rooms at one or Essex's best restaurants near chelmsford at a Great British Pub Galvin Green Man, Howe Street, Great Waltham The county of Essex has a long and storied history, with great things born of its sweepingly varied and beautiful countryside since before the Romans came to these shores. Speaking of which, it was a tribe which held territory in what is now Essex, wronged by a neighbouring tribe, who aided Julius Caesar in his second invasion of Britain in 54BC. How did they help? Local knowledge but above all, provisions. Essex food and drink have long been prized and the land brings forth matchless produce of a huge variety of types. That's why it's such a great gastronomic opportunity to have The Green Man here in the heart of the Essex countryside, not f...

Lots of excitement at the Green Man
Galvin Blog Posted: 13/09/2016

Lots of excitement at the Green Man refurb progress The roof is on and the builders have managed to achieve the original look and feel of the Green Man. The dining room is taking shape with huge ceilings and beautiful French doors leading into the garden, which has beautiful views of the Essex countryside. The huge arched beams inside the dining room are currently being clad in oak to enhance the overall look. The cellar is ready to be stocked with a great selection of beers while our staff are being trained on an extensive cellar course, provided by Adnams Brewery in Southwold (somebody's got to do it!). The kitchen floors, walls & ceilings are all fitted and ready to receive the ch...

Refurbishment Progress
Galvin Blog Posted: 10/08/2016

Refurbishment Progress, Galvin Green Man to become their new local pub We are about half way the refurb of the pub and building of the dining room now. All brick work is done incl. 2 fabulous chimneys in the dining room. All oak beams have been lovingly restored incl. 1 which has been identified as being 1000 yrs. old (compare to something that happened 1000 yrs. ago in England). The cellar is looking huge but it has to hold 40 casks & barrels of craft beer. Our communal table in the pub is currently being handmade in Staffordshire. The 3 chimneys in the pub area have been swept and checked for safe use. The view from upstairs towards the river Chelmer is looking great. We have the key me...

The Green Man in July - Refurbishment Progress
Galvin Blog Posted: 26/07/2016

Refurbishing The Green Man is a labour of love and we're taking care to make sure that everything is exactly as it should be, taking the history and heritage of this great building and enhancing it to create a great British pub for the 21st century and beyond. We are around the half way point and all of the brickwork is complete, including the two grand chimneys in the dining room, both of which have also been pronounced fit to take a roaring winter fire when needed. Specialist craftsmen have been restoring the original oak beams and their work is complete too, including some very fine work on a beam which has been dated at a thousand years o...

Green Fingered Chefs
Galvin Blog Posted: 06/05/2016

If there's one sure-fire way to make a job fun around here it's to get everyone involved and when you've got around 300 beech trees to plant the course is clear: gather the Galvin team and turn tree planting into a team-building exercise! So it was that on Friday 22nd April Chris, Jeff and David Galvin lead a landscaping crew of head chefs and senior staff to start laying out the grounds of The Green Man in Chelmsford - under the watchful eye of the head gardener of course. Hands more used to wielding kitchen knives picked up forks and spades and in less than a day all of the saplings were in place - no mean feat! With the basic shape in plac...

Chefs prepping for Essex
Galvin Blog Posted: 04/02/2016

After a busy Chrismas period with the opening of Galvin HOP in Spitalfields, our chefs are now in full swing to get everything organised for The Green Man in Chelmsford. We are delighted that the plans have been approved and very soon we can start the transformation. Executive Chef, Warren Geraghty, has been busy designing the menus and training himself in an in-depth Cellar Management Course. This 3 day course, including Cask Ale training, gave Warren the opportunity for practical 'hands-on' experience of all the cellar equipment and practices we will use to run the pub. The course was offered by Adnams, a British brewery company...

A Great British Pub in Progress
Galvin Blog Posted: 03/12/2015

On 7 November , Chris and Jeff Galvin opened the doors of The Green Man pub in Chelmsford for its first Open Day, giving the locality a chance to take a look around the place as well as at the plans that the brothers have had drawn up for its future. It was a great day with plenty of people swinging by to say hello and we'd like to thank everyone who did for their excitement about the pub and the very warm welcome they extended. It's hugely important to all of us that The Green Man is a real British pub and provides a place for the community to come and enjoy themselves and if the Open Day was any indication then it's going to be just tha...

The Green Man is Coming Soon
Galvin Blog Posted: 28/09/2015

Did you know that Chris and Jeff are opening a pub? The Green Man in Chelmsford to be precise and it will open in early summer 2016. Going from fine dining to opening a pub might seem unexpected but the desire to have your own pub in the county where you grew up is a pretty natural thing, even when you have a restaurant or five in the heart of London. This will not be a gastro-pub either, the brothers are keen to make sure that it keeps its place at the heart of the community and, although the food will of course be a major draw, there will be no getting rid of the dart board or ignoring the bar for the sake of the dining room - The Green...
